Service types

I am a bit confused. On the article it says:

The main passenger services of TrainOSE are regular (Greek: Κοινή αμαξοστοιχία, common train), express trains (Greek: Ταχεία and Ταχεία Προτεραιότητας), Intercity and Intercity Express trains.

Does that mean that there are two types of express service (Express and Priority Express) as well as two types of intercity service (Intercity and Intercity Express)? -- Philly boy92 (talk) 21:16, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Yes, there are five classes of trains due to historical reasons. However the whole thing is confusing, more so as the actual differences between various types of services are not consistent. For example some IC trains serve some minor stations because there is no regular or express service.

Officially:

• Stylis and Chalkis trains are regulars (4-digit numbers). Edessa trains are also regulars.
• Kalampaka and two Athens-Thessaloniki pairs (502/503, 604/605) are express trains.
• Athens-Thessaloniki E500/E501 are priority express
• IC70/71, IC52/54, IC54/55, IC40/41, IC74/75 and IC90/91 are standard IC
• ICE50/51 and ICE56/57 are ICE

Train names in English (from http://tickets.trainose.gr/dromologia/) + and in Greek :

ICE + ICE, IC+ IC, BT (I suppose Basic Train)+ ΑΠ (απλή) and TΠ (ταχεία προτεραιότητας), PT (I suppose Priority Train)+ ΜΤ (μεικτό) : former sleep train ,SU (I suppose SubUrban)+ ΠΡΟΑστιακός

But, nowdays BT and PT are almost the same, so there is reason to have them in a diffirenet category...

Could you please stay to documented facts? The reason behind all these nominally different train types is a scam to collect extra money from ticket supplements. However this is not formally documented and, therefore, not suitable for inclusion to Wikipedia. SV1XV (talk) 17:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
