[edit]The article is a complete lie, in the USSR Tolkien’s works were not considered an allegory for the Cold War, thought so rather in the west, remember at least the story with the Swedish translation where Sauron was equated with Stalin, because of which even Tolkien rebelled and asked to be removed because for the text of the translation, and the Marxist readings of Tolkien in the West appeared and were popularized later already, during the years of the counterculture in the 60-70s, just the same time when Tolkien appeared in the USSR and there were either partial or complete translations of his works, and so in the USSR Tolkien later appeared later because they either didn’t know about him or didn’t consider him an important author, but an ordinary writer of fairy tales, and this against the background of the fact that the USSR had difficult relations with foreign culture, in particular in the matter of literature, that’s all,and of course, the authors contradict themselves, it turns out that everything was only in samizdat (which is of course not true), but all the same there were official translations (which of course is true) and without any censorship, since there was even nothing to censor there, this fantasy 37.54.230.242 (talk) 13:40, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for discussing. However, the only evidence you provide is assertion ("of course"), or to put it another way, your personal opinion or experience. This is called "Original Research" on Wikipedia, and it is forbidden because it is impossible for other editors to verify it. Please supply sources that can be checked. [edit]Given that the list of translations here is a subset of List of translations of The Lord of the Rings, and that the very little that is said about the translation process or the translations themselves is dwarfed by the fully-cited analysis in Translating The Lord of the Rings, I suggest we merge and redirect this article, which really doesn't add anything of note.
