Architecture
[edit]This article should be of interest to WikiProject Architecture. The building is used as the fundamental example in chapter 5 of the book, Critique of Aesthetic Capitalism, by Gernot Bohme (German original, 2016; English translation 2017). The translation calls it the "Glass Manufactory." The German Wikipedia article on Gunter Henn includes in its bibliography at least two publications bearing directly on this building. See https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunter_Henn . Its cultural importance appears to have been noted first in 2000 when it was included in an exhibition of "Corporate Architecture" held in Berlin. This page says that the cornerstone was laid on 27 July 1999: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gl%C3%A4serne_Manufaktur . Gillian Darley, in Factory (2004), dates the building to 1999-2001. This blog gives practical examples of how the building became, in and of itself, a selling point for the Phaeton car: https://jalopnik.com/the-pain-and-pleasure-of-briefly-owning-a-used-w12-vw-p-1797035069 .
