First soviet turbo jet ?

[edit]

There was independent development (by Russian: Архип Михайлович Люлька) of turbojets in USSR before 1941. At first there were RD-1 (VRD-1) project (started in 1937 ?, suspended due to war) - as well there S-18 (Russian: С-18 - самолетный, also called VRD-3) test in September 1944. According to Евгений Владимирович Комаров. "Создатели небывалых скоростей" (in Russian). Retrieved 2006-08-06.

Even more - in October 1940 there was "supplementary motor" for I-15bis airplane. According to "Реактивное движение - 6. Реактивная авиация" (in Russian). Retrieved 2006-08-06.

You can also find a few information at Brian Daugherty. "The Early Jet Age in the USSR". Retrieved 2006-08-06.

Original jet idea was introduced in 1929 in The theory of the air jet engine by Boris Stechkin (Russian: «Теория воздушного реактивного двигателя», Борис Сергеевич Стечкин). According to Пономарев А. Н. "Советские авиационные конструкторы" (in Russian). Retrieved 2006-08-06.
