Grand River in Owosso

I was in Owosso the other day and went drove by Grand River about 10 Miles south of M21, I didn't have a chance to look at it at the time but according to google maps, it goes from Laingsburg to between Byron and Bancroft running parrallel to its 15 mile south self. I'm not sure if it should be mentioned and if so as a part of the road even though it does not connect. Gurileck 03:46, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

US 16

This should probably be expanded in scope to cover US 16's history in Michigan. Or would in make more sense to make a separate U.S. Route 16 in Michigan? --SPUI (T - C) 18:21, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

US-16 Decommissioning

U.S. Highway 16 in Michigan was decommissioned in the summer of 1964, from Milwaukee, east to Detroit. The route marker signs were taken down in the late summer, early fall of 1964. USRoute66 (talk) 07:03, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Do you have a source that contradicts the maps cited in the article? Imzadi 1979  07:09, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
This one http://www.michiganhighways.org/listings/HistoricUS-016.html "By 1964, however, much of the US-16 corridor had been upgraded to freeway or was under construction as such. So as to not have two overlapping route designations on the entire Detroit-to-Muskegon highway, the State Highway Department decided to petition the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO) to have the US-16 route designation "decommissioned" in the State of Michigan, leaving only the I-96 routing to run between Detroit and Muskegon. AASHO agreed and in 1964 the route of US-16 ceased to exist east of Milwaukee, Wisconsin." USRoute66 (talk) 09:53, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
The problem is that michiganhighways.org is not a reliable source, since it is a self-published source. --Rschen7754 10:09, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Which is not to say that the website is bad, but it just doesn't meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines on sourcing. Since this is a Good Article, it must continue to meet the criteria, which require us to use citations to items classified as "reliable sources" in the Wikipedia sense of the term. You'll notice if you read through all of the articles on highways in Michigan that are assessed as Good Articles or Featured Articles that none of them use the Michigan Highways website as more than an external link. Source is in the history section?

@LilianaUwU: which source in the history section supports that text? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 02:56, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Approach

I think the whole approach to this article is confusing and misguided. Grand River Ave is a major road in Michigan that runs from Detroit to Grand Rapids. The Wikipedia article should start by summarizing the current road. That GRA was once US Route 16 should go under a history section. It doesn't make any sense to begin an article about a current road in the past tense. It would be like re-directing a search for New York City to an entry for New Amsterdam. Would you start off an entry about New York City like this: "New Amsterdam was a Dutch settlement . . .
