Stowaway incident[edit]

Added this amusing incident. My cite confuses the Hunley with the Proteus (unless both ships had female stowaways in 1973??) -- see the Proteus cartoon, immediately following photos, at "Note from Webmaster". "Polaris Class"[edit]

The second sentence of this article reads "The Hunley was designed to tend most of the long-term requirements of the Polaris Class of submarines." I am aware of a Polaris missile weapons system, I don't know about a Polaris Class of submarines. Name of USS Hunley (AS-31)[edit]

I was a crewmember of USS Hunley (AS-31). The thing I remember about the name of the ship was that it was specifically named Hunley, not H.L. Hunley, because it was named to honor both the man, Horace Lawson Hunley, and the submarine he created, the CSS Hunley. The wikipedia reference states the name of AS-31 was after the inventor only, I am certain this is incorrect.16:25, 28 April 2018 (UTC)Duckman1950 (talk)^[1]

Hurricane-Buster[edit]

The Hunley was on duty in Charleston, SC during Hurricane Hugo in the late 80's (they were relieving another tender while it was in the ship-yard). The ship left behind a 'stay-behind' detachment that helped with clean-up after the storm. A few years latter there was another Hurricane and the Navy deployed the Hunley with the moniker "Hurricane-busters" as part of the relief effort. I am sorry, I don't remember much more than that but it did make the national news, and so I would say it qualifies as 'note-worthy'.
