The heaviest aircraft ever to take off from a carrier
[edit]Independence, an A3D Skywarrior, piloted by Lieutenant Commander Ed Decker, took off—at a gross weight of 84,000 pounds (38,000 kg)
The article C-130 Hercules says that this aircraft has the title. --82.76.37.57 13:15, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
The 1988 cruise around South America
[edit]A very small description exists and does not mention the ports visited along the way. I was on the USS Independence during that voyage and thought that the places we visited should be listed. I do not have books or specific online references to point to. My 'first person' account is used as a historical record in many places. I only have a few photos, one of which is on another site that I tried to point toward in my reference. Please correct rather than delete if I have done it incorrectly. My shipmates and I had a good visit to those places and is why I choose one of them to return to for a honeymoon when my wife and I got married. Mikejapp (talk) 15:23, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
