Executive Update

Hi –

It’s Don Pokorny again from UTStarcom. I am going to go ahead and update UTStarcom’s article with only the factual – and neutral – information listed below about recent executive team changes and company divestitures. I realize that it would be better for a Wikipedia editor to update the article, but I haven’t heard back from anyone since my last note on the discussion page two weeks ago and wanted to be sure that anyone who views our Wikipedia article is receiving accurate information about our company. There are still additional corrections and updates that need to be made regarding our core business areas and technologies, but I’m happy to work with a Wikipedia editor to update that when they have some time if someone would like to contact me.

Hi David –

This is Don Pokorny from UTStarcom. I was just looking at UTSTarcom’s Wikipedia page and noticed that the information not up-to-date as there have been some recent changes at UTStarcom. Would you be able to help us make the appropriate edits?

Peter Blackmore assumed the role of president and CEO as of July 1, 2008 – replacing Hong Lu, who will now serve as the executive chairman of UTStarcom’s board. Mr. Blackmore is also currently serving on the board of directors at UTStarcom, Inc. as well as the board of directors at MEMC.

In addition, UTStarcom sold its Personal Communications Division to AIG Investments in July 2008 and has restructured UTStarcom around three core areas: IPTV, broadband and NGN.

Again, I just want to be sure that I am following Wikipedia’s guidelines in updating our company’s profile, so please let me know if you need more information to support the above information or if it would be okay for me to proceed with making the changes myself.

My name is Don Pokorny and I am the senior marketing manager for corporate internal and electronic communications at UTStarcom. We recently reviewed our UTStarcom Wikipedia article and the related discussions and would like to provide assistance with the development and expansion of the article and the update of current, factual information and photos, as appropriate. We do realize that companies are typically not supposed to use the discussion page as a general forum and we understand that we should not update our own article. However, there is a significant amount of information about the company, its history, acquisitions and current executive team that is has omitted from the original article/stub and we thought that this may be the most appropriate and effective way to share that information about our company with the contributors engaged in this discussion. We have chosen not to become involved in the discussion up to this point because we respect the intent of Wikipedia, which is to present factual and unbiased information on any subject. However, we did notice that although some contributors suggested an update of the article in late 2005 and early 2006, no one has yet committed to doing so. A lot of information regarding product lines, the company’s business units, the company’s development and market history and recent restructure is relevant, yet not included in the current article. In addition, some of the information on the page is either outdated or factually inaccurate and we would like to assist with the refresh of that information. We also wanted to address the bot on our discussion page with regards to the picture of the router. We are not sure who posted this image or why they felt that it needed to be included, but it is not a core product for our business and it does not hold any relevance with regards to the company now or in the past. Our intention by requesting an update is not to transform the article into a slanted promotion of the company or an additional marketing source, but rather we’d like to see the article reflect an accurate, fair, balanced, and neutral explanation of who UTStarcom is and our history in the telecommunications industry. We feel that individuals who visit Wikipedia looking for information about UTStarcom should receive as much unbiased information as possible from a site that has established itself as a credible and respected resource – a site that provides straightforward and relevant information to those that would like to supplement their knowledge base of the company with information that can be found on the company’s web site.

To that extent, I am providing some very basic information below that I think you will find helpful in updating and editing the UTStarcom Wikipedia article. Please remember that this is an encyclopaedia, not a brochure for your company. I've removed much of what you added as it wasn't suitable for an encyclopaedia and the remainder will require some cleaning up to make it meet Wikipedia policies and guidelines.
