Should this be renamed/moved from "U.S. Post Office (Riverhead, New York)" to "Riverhead Post Office"? The NRHP official name is "US Post Office--Riverhead", but "Riverhead Post Office" is an alternative name given in the National Register's NRIS system. doncram (talk) 18:31, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so, partially for the same reason other Post Offices are formatted the same way, and the fact that there are Other Riverheads in the world. ----DanTD (talk) 18:46, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, yeah, i guess you're right. Then the first sentence needs to be rewritten somehow, given that i changed it. Perhaps some new way of writing the intro would be less awkward than just replacing the first 3 words. I'm at a loss, tho. doncram (talk) 22:11, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Followup, about US Post Office-Riverhead being the NRIS name for the site, which should appear in the NRHP infobox. I would be happy, sort of, to have a general discussion about how faithful/slavish we need to be to NRIS names, and/or what to do about the rather messy list of U.S. Post Office names in NRIS in particular. See huge U.S. Post Office disambiguation, for a start. However, the current system is to use the NRIS name pretty much as given, with some changes for commas and double hyphens only. I'd rather have the general discussion at wt:NRHP, say, rather than change from the simple (fairly stupid and slavish) practice a little here and there. Funny we had sort of this discussion at this very article before. doncram (talk) 05:33, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With so many towns sharing the same names, we'd be better off with the current standard of "U.S. Post Office (Town, State)" and simply using the official names for the infoboxes. ----DanTD (talk) 08:18, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
