Virgin Mary comparison[edit]

"It has been suggested" is weasel wording. I don't doubt that someone has made the suggestion, but does the suggestion come from a sufficiently important source to be noteworthy? Mrhsj 15:26, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, because in the front of the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien explicitly says that he didn't model Middle-earth or anything else in LOTR-world on real life, nor did he use any form of allegory (this is mentioned in the Lord of the Rings article, search for "allegory" to find the relevant paragraph). Thus, a reliable source is really needed for this comparison. 124.148.91.160 03:08, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A question that will sit here unanswered for ten years because only fanboys edit this article[edit]

Was the Sindarin name of Varda perhaps inspired by El Berith? - (), 02:26, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Doubt it – Tolkien was interested in Germanic languages, not Middle Eastern history. See the Influences section in the Tolkien article for where he got ideas for these names from.124.148.49.98 01:47, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But the name is mentioned in the Bible, and Tolkien was Catholic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.92.236.171 (talk) 01:26, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The name Elbereth is composed of two separate Sindarin words el (star) and bereth (queen). The vocabulary of Tolkien's constructed languages has frequently been changed back and forth by him so I wouldn't go as far as to draw such conclusions. De728631 (talk) 21:26, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

picture[edit]

can somebody put a picture of varda in this article, pretty please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.175.8.240 (talk) 01:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delete? This is not remotely justified.[edit]

I cannot get to the discussion page, so I have made additions that explain how important this fictional person is, in one of the world's best-known modern mythologies. --GwydionM (talk) 13:17, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No one bothered to save the useful details on the page it was re-directed to[edit]

Does no one care if useful data is lost? If other people's work is thrown away?

The Redirect entry says a lot less, and less than this important character deserves.
