Phage

[edit]

Phage does not refer to bacteriophage it refers to the greek word for eat. 59.38.32.5 (talk) 02:27, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I see that someone has subsequently edited the article accordingly, but this seems very much a [citation needed] sort of situation. What evidence is there that this was the writers' or producers' intent? There's nothing I can recall in the story that relates the name to the Greek language. In English, or at least in America (where the series was produced), "phage" very much is short for "bacteriophage". That's why Phage redirects to Bacteriophage on the English Wikipedia, and why a google search for the term "phage" on my US-located computer returns a page of results related to bacteriophage and/or biotechnology, and nothing about eating, or the Greek language. Besides, wouldn't the greek word for "eat" be rendered as fage in English? The same way the Greek yogurt brand (Fage) spells it on their US packaging?
(In truth I don't know why I'm bothering with this quibble, since I'm of the opinion this whole article shouldn't exist. As someone else has already noted and flagged, it falls far below the notability standard for Wikipedia.) — FeRD_NYC (talk) 02:04, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
