After the split[edit]

What is needed here is more info on the regular Rest of World and US models; also the US Pickup (which, as far as I know, was not identical to the RoW Caddy) should be treated. Also, the NA section should be cleaned up somewhat. --328cia (talk) 11:31, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should the infoboxes be in the top of pages?, I think it would look better --— Typ932T | C  17:18, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, of course, thank you. This was just a quick copy/paste edit. Also, the introductory sections for Mark 1 to 5 are missing. I´ll see what I can do in the next few days. --328cia (talk) 17:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Caribe picture[edit]

Here is a color-corrected version of the blue-hued VW Caribe. Somebody else go and integrate it if so desired. Replace o in link with i. Stupid effing new damn rules all the damn time. Kar98 (talk) 17:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

This needs a lead to summarize 1 paragraph version of what somebody asking what a Rabbit/Golf is. Similarly almost everything is lost in the main article. Ideally a good lead should also serve as the section in the main Golf article. Essentials are that it was called the Rabbit in the US, replaced the Beetle, front wheel drive design, used Audi engineering etc. Bachcell (talk) 22:21, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Golf Name[edit]

I took the liberty of removing the section on the Golf name. Reasons:

  • Most of the content is hearsay and phantasy
  • The section was utterly unreferenced, except for
  • One bogus reference, an MSN pricing & specs page that said nothing about where the name came from
  • The chapter already had a comment that had doubts about the veracity
  • The chapter seems to be a translation from the German WP, where a likewise bogus chapter also has been removed, after consensus had been reached

I did the launch campaign for the Golf MKI in Germany, and I can assure you that the car definitely was NOT named after the Gulf stream. Actually, there never was ANY official logic to the competing "Wind" and "Sports" names. That the Golf was named after the Gulf stream, which is not a wind, and that the Polo allegedly was named after the Polar wind is an attempt to twist history into logic that never existed. History[edit]

Why is the Chevrolet Chevette listed as an example of a front-wheel-drive car? The Chevette wasn't a front-wheel-drive car, it was rear-wheel-drive. I'm considering reverting that to Chevrolet Citation or Chevrolet Cavalier because the Citation and Cavalier were Chevrolet's front-wheel-drive compacts.--Kevjgav (talk) 20:10, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'm starting to understand why the Chevette is listed here instead of the Citation or Cavalier. The Chevette, while not front-wheel-drive, was Chevy's only hatchback at the time, therefore meaning out of all those cars, the Chevette was the most comparable to the Volkswagen Golf, as the Citation was more comparable with the Volkswagen Passat and the Cavalier was more like the Volkswagen Jetta. This may be irrelevant material, but realistically, Chevrolet didn't have any front-wheel-drive hatchbacks at the time.--Kevjgav (talk) 13:17, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
