Wasp 17b

[edit]

Can someone put up a page for Wasp 17b?--Medisin (talk) 11:51, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

name?

[edit]

This needs an infobox, what's the star's usual catalog name anyways? It doesn't appear in SIMBAD under this name. 76.66.192.144 (talk) 03:35, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, the name is pretty odd, in the article about WASP-17b (the planet) it says the planet was simply named that because it was the 17th exo-planet discovered by that team, but that doesn't explain why the star should be called WASP-17. Was the star system named after the planet? That would be pretty odd wouldn't it? I mean, surely the star was discovered before the planet, right? (Especially since it’s a fairly large and bright star). Can someone try to find out when the star was discovered and what its name is? --Hibernian (talk) 22:17, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A link to the planetary society[1] suggested that WASP-17 is the name of planet. However, most other sources seems to call the planet 17b and the star 17. But I'm sure the star will have had a name before the planet was found. Yaris678 (talk) 10:49, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
