Analog format[edit]

  • Only 2,000 of the 13,000 analog AM/FM radio stations in the U.S. have converted to HD; of those that have converted, all still broadcast via analog as mandated by the FCC. Moreoever, the first HD channel of every HD Radio station is a simulcast of the analog signal -- again, as mandated by the FCC.[1]
  • 239 million analog radio listeners in the U.S. vs. only 3 million HD Radio units. By far, analog is still the preferred choice among radio consumers.[2]
  • Clearly, the infobox should reflect that analog technology is still the dominant form of transmission. It's also no secret that the radio industry has been heavily promoting HD Radio; by including only the HD Radio formats, one begins to question the credibility of this article's content. Wikipedia is an encyclopedic endeavor, not a brochure for iBiquity. Levdr1 (talk) 20:18, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

The article is woefully un-referenced. Also, much of the "History" section reads like a cheesy marketing pitch. I've trimmed away some of the more blatant marketing copy. Can others help in making these sections more encyclopedic? Dmitry Brant (talk) 21:26, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dmitry. I agree that most of the body, particularly the WNCR content, needs work -- poor sourcing, WP:POV issues, etc. I'll do what I can. Levdr1lp / talk 21:34, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

W291BV[edit]

A construction permit in the FCC database for W291BV has it being reassigned to WAKS as the parent station. I'm not changing anything, however, as the translator is still relaying WGAR's HD2 signal. Nor can I definitively confirm that such a change has taken effect, just that it is "on the record." Nathan Obral (talk) 15:49, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Station website[edit]

Regarding this edit- the station website has not actually changed; it may now redirect to a different URL, but the actual official website -- as long identified on-air, online, etc. -- remains "WGAR.com". WGAR-FM continues to direct listeners to "WGAR.com" daily for contact information, contests, community events, employment opportunities, etc., and so I'm not at all convinced the station website should be changed in either the infobox or external links section at this time.
