Origin of call sign[edit]

I deleted the following from the article:

  • "PGU" stands for (I believe) "Permanent Ground Unit" which was a wartime barracks building.

My recollection (from where, I cannot say, though I was an ex-officio member of the Illini Publishing Company board of directors in the 1970s) is that the initials stood for "Parade Ground Unit". Nothing should be added to the article until there is some verification, however. -- DS1953 talk 19:18, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I was informed it was indeed "Parade Ground Unit", by a station manager.

I'm guessing it's East Green in Champaign, not East Green in Urbana? —Tamfang 09:15, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Yup, all the Illini Media units are now located at 512 E. Green Street, Champaign, IL 61820. InsaneNewman 19:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
