Not the one in the Genesis song
[edit]Is it appropriate to mention in a subsection that Walter Erskine (1839-1888) is not the historical figure described in the Genesis song "Eleventh Earl of Mar"?
In fact, that song is about John Erskine (1675-1732). He was the 11th earl counting from the first creation of the title in 1404. This is clear from the lyrics of the song, and from comments by the lyricist Mike Rutherford.
I deleted a reference to that song on Walter Erskine's page, but if we don't have a notice referring to this confusion, I predict that someone in the future may put the incorrect information again. — Lawrence King (talk) 22:45, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Moved
[edit]Following the discussion here, I've moved this page so that the subject is disambiguated by date. This is far less confusing than by succession number. Swanny18 (talk) 20:37, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
