There isn't a page on the white belt as it relates to music. White belts have been involved in subgenres of punk music over the last while. I am not an authority on the topic but I'd someone to share their information. I know some believe it's related to the genre grindcore, some relate it to the recent mainstream pop-"screamo", some relate it to screamo itself by the real definition. Anyway I'd like to know where it came from. Did it evolve from the black leather belts, as popularized by punk music many years ago? Or is there more to it? xtylerx 13:35, 18 April 2006 (UTC) The article misses one very important point - that coloured belts are western (I think, more precisely, American, but don't quote me on that one) invention, as opposed to the ascetic Asian tradition which did not put much emphasis on visible ranks.[reply]

It's analogical to sport competitions - no such thing in traditional Budo. And now, it's not a coincidence that there's only white and black belts in conservative spirited martial arts like Aikido where you got no tournaments at all (apart from some styles like Tomiki aikido, which in turn actually HAVE introduced coloured belts! The correlation is clear)

I won't edit the article myself because English isn't my first language and I couldn't put it in words nicely, so I'm only making my point here...

Actually, the concept of a system of colored belts was created by Kano Jigoro Sensei, the founder of Judo. Americans just took the idea to the extreme. Draganta (talk) 06:47, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
