Requested move

The title of the article is too vague. Does it refer to an era of history, to culture, to arts and letters? All of these? It should be renamed Wilhelmine era, Wilhelmine Germany, or perhaps redirected to German Empire. Also, the article conflicts with entries for the feminine name Wilhelmine. Inserting a redirect to Wilhelmina (disambiguation) is not an ideal remedy.

Since Wilhelmine Germany currently redirects to William II, German Emperor, I am inclined to appropriate it as the new title for this stub. Then we'll see how it fares.

I'm not sure if this is because of the change you made, Rob, but my attempts to point the redirect Wilhelmine Germany to Wilhelmine don't seem to be working.

At any rate, changing the redirect was a lazy solution anyway, as it'd have to either go to German Empire#Wilhelmine_era, German Empire or Wilhelmine.

The first choice wouldn't let people know that the term is sometimes used for the whole Wilhelm-to-Wilhelm period 1871-1918. It may actually be the most scholarly use of the term but scholars also use the broad use also. The second wouldn't point out that the first usage - basically post 1890, if the 1888-1890 distinction is worth drawing - is most likely what the book they're reading refers to. The third probably isn't really a wikipedia entry so much as a wiktionary one.

I made Wilhelmine Germany into a disambiguation page listing those first two choices as clearly as I could with a see-also to Wilheminism. I could've also added one to Wilhelmine but I think it's basically a wiktionary definition of an adjective standing in for a disambiguation page that now exists. I'd suggest it either be turned into a disambiguation page quite similar to the one I made for Wilhelmine Germany or else be deleted. Or, alternatively, Wilhelmine could be retained as the disambiguation page and the one I made at Wilhelmine Germany turned into a redirect to it. I haven't done many "structure-related" edits at wikipedia and I hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes.

I put in a see-also to Wilhelmism, a term I'm unfamiliar with, but it might be helpful for someone looking to understand the usual connotations of "Wilhelmine" in its post-1890 sense. 99.192.94.91 (talk) 20:03, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
