"While most third class passengers were left to fend for themselves trying to reach lifeboats through unfamiliar parts of the ship and past barriers" - I'm removing this for two reasons: first, contraty to popular belief, there were no barrers in the ship that prevented 3rd class passengers from reaching the boat deck (see the evidence of Edward Wilding from the British Enquiry); second, the reference used gives evidence that most if not all of the 3rd class stewards helped in the evacuation of passengers.
