Yes, I know this article is still very much a stub of content, but additional information is most likely available to round it out. No, I don't expect this to ever become a WP:FA, but I think the Naval officer father of a Fleet Admiral would deserve a paragraph or two even in a printed encylopedia. — MrDolomite • Talk 02:47, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies: you're absolutely right. Looks like you were in the middle of editing, and I was too quick on the trigger. Clicketyclack 02:52, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, no problem. Anytime you think you'll "be right back" real life intrudes :) And I have been having some success finding additional information. Thanks — MrDolomite • Talk 02:58, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

USS Newark

[edit]

Hmm, here it says Halsey was in command of USS Newark in May 1898. Presumably that is USS Newark (C-1). But on the ship article, it says

"Following extensive overhaul, Newark recommissioned May 23, 1898, shortly after the declaration of war on Spain, Captain A. S. Barker in command."

Was there another Newark? Or was this just a minor command during refit? — MrDolomite • Talk 03:06, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no mention of a Halsey as captain of the USS Newark C-1 on the official US Navy site:
DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY -- NAVAL HISTORICAL CENTER. "Newark-1". Retrieved 2010-03-09.
Ditto the second Newark, which is a tugboat.209.169.85.18 (talk) 19:52, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(There is no third Newark at this official site.) 209.169.85.18 (talk) 19:55, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
