Water tower, water supply source, Hobb's Mill

[edit]

I have no details, but have been told that ever since the water tower was built in Wilsons, Virginia that the water came from a mill pond, Hobb's Mill Pond, at least three miles away. I have been told that the water was piped to the water tower via a pump. I am curious about the pump. How did it operate? What about the piping? Also, I am told, but haven't actually went to look in person, that the pump house was built of brick and is still standing near the mill. If you might know an old-timer who remembers how this was done, please talk with him/her and post their story here. I think this information is interesting and should be preserved. Can anyone help?
