Maybe it should be mentioned that Apple actually offers the XGrid admin software as a free download? See http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/serveradmintools104.html
I'd like to see a list of software that can accept XGrid help. Is this documented in a form that Wikipedia can accept? Chrysrobyn (talk) 14:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I tried downloading the serveradmintools but on my Leopard-based MacBook, they refused to install "for an unknown reason." ! 71.189.73.222 (talk) 02:13, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

P.S.: I copied some stuff from Microsoft Word, so the formatting will be a little bit off. :-) Several prose issues exist within the article. If you have ?s contact me on my talk. miranda 11:30, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

2nd GA review
Try to fix the article's prose by replacing "it" with a proper nounThird paragraph of lead is still a run-onseveral mistakes in fourth paragraph of lead (prose)Last sentence of lead needs a comma to be a compound sentence. Better prose is needed.First sentence in history section is still a run-on. Needs a colon before you list the features.Several prose issues on my first GA review have not been addressed. (i.e. run-on sentences/prose issues).
Unfortunately, I cannot give another GA review before the due date. However, you are welcome to leave notes on my talk page for any questions. miranda 14:30, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Due to these problems not being addressed, I have decided to fail the article. I suggest you to have a peer review, and take consideration to the previous suggestions. miranda 05:26, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Due to problems bigger than Wikipedia I have not been around. I'll nominate again soon. BTW, I was going to take in your considerations, I just haven't been online. —Atyndall [citation needed] 08:29, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Infobox
The info box currently says "Platform: Independent" but there is no evidence that this runs on anything other than MacOS X 10.4 and up. Even if it runs on other Apple equipment, should this really be listed as "Independent"? If this actually runs on any platform, perhaps more non-Mac info could be added to the article. 68.36.75.26 (talk) 10:02, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, the "Website" link goes to a different place than the text of the link. Which is the desired page? 68.36.75.26 (talk) 10:07, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- The platform section refers to the hardware architecture the software runs under (it can also mean the operating system, but as you can see in the infobox it says "OS: Mac OS X") which, because it is software that will run wherever OS X is present, is independent. The website link has now been fixed. Happy editing and thanks for reporting those problems. — ^.^ [citation needed] 11:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure how this wasn't brought up before, but this article lacks independent reliable sourcing
- MacNN mention is trivial.
- 5/13 references, including three of six referenced more than once, are from Apple itself.
- Nothing seems to indicate to me that http://unu.novajo.ca/simple/ is a reliable source.
- Gulker article looks RS'ed, but per his bio I'm not sure he's independent. Call it one independent RS, though.
- Stanford links are interesting, but not a reliable source.
- Dylan Muir posting is just a technical hint, not non-trivial coverage.
Apologies, but this is just inadequate sourcing for a GA. Feel free to renominate with some better press coverage--consider using a service like Nexis, ProQuest, or EBSCOHost. Jclemens (talk) 22:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, per our discussion, I've stepped out of the reviewer role and made substantial edits to the article in support of the reliable sourcing. Thus, a new reviewer is necessary. Jclemens (talk) 21:51, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
New Review
Hi! I'll take over the GA review of the article, if no-one minds. I'm reading through the article right now, and doing a quick copy-edit, so I should have my comments up soon. Dana boomer (talk) 13:11, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
The lead is generally meant to be a summary of the entire article. Therefore, it should have no original information in it (information that is not also found in the body of the article) and so, doesn't need sources unless they are backing up a direct quotation. In the first paragraph of the History section, you say "Zilla was the first desktop-based distributed computing program". Now, I think I understand what you mean here, but the way it's presented is a little awkward. Please try to reword this.Do you have any external links? If not, this section can be removed.- I understand Jclemens concerns about independent sources, but I think that as the article stands now, it should be OK. With the additional references added by Jclemens, the references are at least slightly more diverse. Also, since you're using Apple sources mainly to cite information on how the programs works and was developed, they are most likely going to be a reliable source. However, if you are planning on taking this article to FA review, please know that you will most likely be challenged on the rather Apple-heaviness of your references.
I agree with Jclemens comment below that the fair-use image rationales for the two screen-shots should probably be more in depth. I would suggest taking a look at some other rationales (for example, check out the fair use rationales for the images in Movieland.)
Overall, this is a very nice article. There are just a few things that I would like to see changed before I pass this article to GA status. Jclemens, I would also appreciate any input you have on this review. Drop me a note here on the review page or on my talk page if either of you have any questions. Dana boomer (talk) 13:35, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
- Very nice work! I'm passing this article to GA status. Dana boomer (talk) 01:06, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Image rationales
I think the fair use rationales for both the Zilla and Xgrid Icon could be more verbose. The ones that exist are pretty terse, and others I've encountered recently had substantially more reasoning embedded into them. Jclemens (talk) 21:17, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Information on projects using Xgrid?
I've looked around the web and can't find a list of applications that use Xgrid. Seemingly there are about 2 publicly available programs. I came to Wikipedia because this is the kind of thing that often has a "List of Xgrid Applications". Is there such a list on or off Wikipedia? Chrysrobyn (talk) 21:13, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- I can say with a fair amount of accuracy that such a list does not exist on Wikipedia. Because we have policies and guidelines concerning verifibility and reliable sources and there appears to be no reliable sources with lists of Xgrids, such an article could probably not be made. Although, there may be such a list somewhere else on the internet, try googling 'list of xgrids' and 'xgrid clusters' and you might find some useful results. Sorry I couldn't help any further. - It's a little confusing to have monitors represent the agents in the diagram. They don't need monitors -- they're computers. No image of a computer is even included, just stylized monitors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.79.170 (talk) 15:06, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
