Propse to rename the page to FT-ONE

[edit]

I don't know why the page is called FT-1 since one only has to look on the transceiver and see it is called FT-ONE. So I propose the page is renamed to FT-ONE (all upper case), since that's what is said on the front of the transceiver. It's also on the user manual. I quickly scanned the 43 page user manaual and can find nowhere where it says "FT-1". On the first two pages, it uses the name "FT-ONE" on six occasions.

The page also needs a photo and some references. I'll add a photo soon which will be my own, so no copyright issues Drkirkby (talk) 07:37, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

The result of the move request was: Page moved to "Yaesu FT-One." The company may have styled it "FT-ONE" (and it's fine to use such styling for documentary purposes in the article body) but as per the MoS, we generally don't hold to such affectations here. -- Hadal (talk) 23:27, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yaesu FT-1FT-ONERelisted. Why should this one not follow the naming convention for all of the other transceivers from Yaesu? Vegaswikian (talk) 02:29, 26 May 2011 (UTC) This transceiver is called the FT-ONE by its manufacturer. A quick Google will find endless photographs of it showing the name FT-ONE. The user manual, a copy of which may be found at http://www.n2ckh.com/LIBRARY/YAESU/FT-ONE/FT-ONE.pdf makes numerous references to FT-ONE and I can't find a single reference to FT-1. Sorry, I mean this should be renamed to Yaesu_FT-ONE. It makes sense for "Yaesu" to remain, but not "FT-1" when this transceiver is called FT-ONE. Drkirkby (talk) 08:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a Google on this rig and find by far the most references call it an FT-ONE. WP:MOSTM appears to be related to trademarks. I'm not aware if this is trademarked or not, but even WP:MOSTM says Use common sense in applying it; it will have occasional exceptions. I would have thought there was a case for an exception here, as it's far more commonly written as FT-ONE than FT-One.
Do you think it needs "Yaesu" in the name? A quick Google and I can't find anything else called FT-ONE (or FT-One), so perhaps the Yaesu can be dropped too. In the case of the Yaesu FT 101, it is simply called "FT-101" on Wikipedia. In the case of the Yaesu VX-3R, the page is called "Yaesu_VX-3R" on Wikipedia, so there does not appear to be any consistency on Wikipedia whether the manufacturers name is included or not. Taking something more famous, like the Apple iPod, I note again there is no "Apple" on the Page in Wikipedia.
Anyway, FT-One or Yaesu_FT-One are both improvements on what we currently have, but personally I'd prefer FT-ONE.
BTW, I don't work for Yaesu, so don't have any interest in trying to increase the importance by the use of capital letters. Drkirkby (talk) 15:06, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
LtPowers, Given you are an admin, and feel FT-One is best, can you rename it to that? We both agree that's an improvement on FT-1. Drkirkby (talk) 21:57, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Who said I'm an admin? Powers T 15:28, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I thought you were. Since we both agree that FT-1 is incorrect, do you know how to get the page renamed? Do you have any preference for FT-One vs Yaesu_FT-One? Personally that does not bother me. I'd personally prefer the upper case FT-ONE or Yaesu_FT-ONE, but the lower case versions are an improvement over the current page name. Just wait. It was relisted less than a week ago. Powers T 23:07, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
