Sci-Fi?
[edit]Isn't this series science fiction? I didn't watch it, but judging from the plot descriptions, it looks like science fiction to me. Kumagoro-42 17:07, 6 September 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kumagoro-42 (talk • contribs)
- I don't believe it's billed as science fiction, hence the lack of listing it as such. Alex|The|Whovian 17:09, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, CBS's press releases say "Genre: Drama, Mystery", see, e.g., [1]. –Dark Cocoa Frosting (talk) 10:45, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- It's not science fiction. While there's quite some handwaving going on (as in basically any movie), it's set in the present day, including present-day science. -- 145.228.61.5 (talk) 13:31, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
- Well, I just finished watching it. The wikipedia defination of Sci-Fi is (Science fiction is a genre of speculative fiction that typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life.) and since the season is about human induced (Factory made chemical) aminal apocalypse. I guess its right to put it in the category of Sci-fi. JoseMartin(Rubia) (talk) 12:14, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
@Kumagoro-42, AlexTheWhovian, Dark Cocoa Frosting, and JoseMartin(Rubia): I watched it on IRIB TV4 over the past few months; IMO it has many science fiction elements specially its third season which is set in the future and has futuristic weapons and devices (their phones and tablets), this fact is also covered by some sources:
- https://www.metacritic.com/tv/zoo ("Genre(s): Drama, Action & Adventure, Suspense, Science Fiction")
- https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/jun/30/cbs-zoo-animals-attack-summer-tv ("Zoo: animals attack in CBS's undemanding new sci-fi show") and ("CBS has had a string of these mild sci-fi shows from huge writers, like Under the Dome and Extant. They all follow this formula")
- https://www.netflix.com/ca/title/80011206 ("Genres: Sci-Fi TV, TV Shows Based on Books, TV Thrillers, TV Dramas")
- https://www.nextflicks.tv/review/zoo/ ("Zoo is a science-fiction drama") and ("It is fiction. Science fiction. It's not supposed to be a guide on how to avoid getting eaten by a lion.")
- https://www.barnesandnoble.com/blog/why-james-pattersons-zoo-is-perfect-summer-television/ ("When you hear CBS is developing a James Patterson book into a TV series, you might be forgiven for assuming the Patterson book being adapted is a crime thriller, because that’s the genre Patterson is perhaps best known for. But Zoo is a Patterson book of a different sort—a science-fiction thriller.") and ("TV has enough crime dramas and lawyer shows. Let’s have some more big-idea science fiction, starting with Zoo.")
- https://www.film-fish.com/showslike/zoo ("Genre: Drama, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Thriller")

so I am in favor of mentioning this genre in the lead and adding the related categories. -- FMM-1992 (talk) 04:42, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

- The Hollywood Reporter (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/zoo-preview-interview-jeff-pinkner-805908/) interview with Jeff Pinkner, the series "showrunner and executive producer":
"Zoo joins Under the Dome and Extant as the newest cornerstone to CBS’ summer slate. How do you feel your show fits in with the sci-fi nature of these sister shows?
All these shows are all on some version of a sci-fi continuum. Of them, Extant is probably the hardest sci-fi, and both our show and Under the Dome fit in some version of speculative science fiction. All the science in our show is absolutely authentic and 100 percent — though, in some cases pushed, though not as pushed as Fringe was — but all of it is real and possible and authentic. Yet is it really happening out in the world? To that extent, [it] is science fiction." - Los Angeles Times (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/la-ca-st-tvpreview-zoo-20150531-story.html):
“It should give the summer movies a run for their money,” said Patterson, a populist literary star perhaps best known for his Alex Cross franchise, less so for being understated. “There’s horror, sci-fi, suspense. It’s kind of James Patterson meets Stephen King meets Michael Crichton. It’s a scary fable.”

I think no doubt remains that this is a "Sci-Fi" TV series. Regards. -- FMM-1992 (talk) 06:16, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
