Canterbury Mounted Rifles Regiment[edit]

Colonel Findlay

  • ... that the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Regiment (commanding officer pictured) suffered 127 men killed during 7 months at Gallipoli (without their horses), and then exactly the same number in 2 years fighting in Sinai and Palestine?

Improved to Good Article status by Jim Sweeney (talk). Nominated by Demiurge1000 (talk) at 21:57, 16 January 2014 (UTC).

  • - Hook is too lengthy 238 characters). Unnecessary QPQ done since this is not a self-nom. Newness ok - Article promoted to GA. The statement "Another forty-six, not included in that total, were reported missing believed dead" needs fixing. Hook fact not sourced inline. Hook facts are spread throughout the article and not all properly sourced. Part of the hook is supported by this online source and one offline source. Need a footnote at the end of this statement "In the seven months of the Gallipoli Campaign they had 127 dead; fourteen of those died of illness and 113 were killed in action". No copy-vio nor close paraphrase noticed. Article neutral. EagerToddler39 (talk) 04:10, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
  • I've trimmed the hook a bit; it now stands at 197 characters without the "(commanding officer pictured)", which I believe is not counted. I've updated the article so that the hook fact is referenced inline at the end of its sentence. Haven't changed the "missing believed dead" sentence. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 04:24, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Actually the length does matter and the "(commanding officer pictured)" is included. Recall that the hooks have to be short enough to fit well on the main page along with 7 other hooks. The fixes to the inline citations are ok. Still looking for a hook within the limit. EagerToddler39 (talk) 19:17, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Note that the exact text "(pictured)" does not count, but any additional characters do, so the nineteen additional characters in "(commanding officer pictured)" do count. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 05:13, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
What about this version two Jim Sweeney (talk) 20:11, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
