Clandestine Childhood[edit]

Created/expanded by Cambalachero (talk). Self nom at 04:08, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Comment:I will review this article.NearTheZoo (talk) 03:17, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
  • The movie sounds interesting (!) and this is a pretty good (very short) description--and the creation date, article length, and hook reference are all good. However, there are some problems that should be addressed, such as:
  • Montoneros is sometimes capitalized, and sometimes not.
  • Some misspellings (e.g., "critizised")
  • Some typos (e.g., "althought" for "although")
  • Some bad English (e.g., "affiliated to," "found the character as a difficult task," etc)
  • Some unreferenced statements. For example, the article states that the Academy will "define" the final 5 Best Foreign Language Academy Award nominees on January 10th. I'm not 100% sure what "define" here means, but List_of_submissions_to_the_85th_Academy_Awards_for_Best_Foreign_Language_Film (listed under "See also") notes that the 5 nominations will be announced on January 24. Should "define" be "determine" or "decide" -- meaning that Academy officials will know, even though the announcement will be later? In any case, I couldn't find a January 10 reference.
  • Some mistakes with punctuation, such as the need for the comma to come before quotation marks
  • And some issues that are possibly correct, but may be incorrect -- such as the statement that an operation was "named 'counteroffensive'" -- ? I'm not sure whether "counteroffensive" was a name or just a description.
I was tempted to start making corrections myself, but I think the creator needs to go back and carefully edit the article him/herself. NearTheZoo (talk) 03:54, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Done, with 3 exceptions. If you check the reference, the January 24 was for 2012, the awards already given, not for 2013. The newspaper I used as reference for the whole paragraph says January 10. The comma inside quotation marks is American English, I studied British English, which places them outside if they are not part of the quoted material (see Quotation mark#Punctuation). And yes, the operation is actually named "counteroffensive" ("Contraofensiva" in Spanish), it's not just a description of the type of operation. There's no article about it yet, but I will write one soon. Cambalachero (talk) 18:18, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the reassurance about the title of the offensive and the dates of the announcements -- and how can I as an American criticize British English? :) However, I think the hook needs to be rewritten to clarify the fact that the film was nominated for a future award, so I recommend:
  • ALT1:... that the movie Clandestine Childhood is Argentina's submission for the 2013 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film?
  • I also recommend that the article's creator try to find some additional references for the article. Currently, there are only three references used in the article for the movie. The fourth reference, used to support the historical statements, is a section of over 80 pages in a reference book, and I do think more specific refences are needed to back up content. There are also some sections with no references--for example, the list of cast members. Still, I think that with a revised hook, I would approve the DYK nomination, hoping that the article's creator would go back and fill in some of the blanks! Thanks to this article, I do look forward to seeing the movie! Argentina certainly does make some wonderful films! {Please note that because of religious holy days that begin here in an hour, I won't be able to check back to see if this new hook is acceptable until Tuesday night. I will check back as soon as I can!) Best wishes, NearTheZoo (talk) 22:07, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
  • OK, cleaned up the hook just a little, since "the movie" is redundant. I recommend the following alternative hook, and hope someone can approve it quickly so that the DYK can be approved:
  • In my opinion, all good to go--with ALT2! NearTheZoo (talk) 23:37, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
