Minnesota State Capitol charioteer
Minnesota State Capitol charioteer

Improved to Good Article status by Myotus (talk). Nominated by Cielquiparle (talk) at 10:35, 16 March 2022 (UTC).

  • I'm slightly confused about the hook. As I understand from Progress of the State, the entire quadriga was removed in 1994, but the Minnesota State Capitol artwork article doesn't clearly say that, just that the entire thing was renovated in 1994 and only the charioteer was removed in 2014. The hook fact needs to be unambiguously stated in the article. Ping Myotus, Cielquiparle. —Kusma (talk) 21:19, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Kusma Thank you for the careful reading. How about:
    • ALT1: ... that the golden rooftop charioteer (pictured) was removed during restoration of the Minnesota State Capitol and its artwork? Cielquiparle (talk) 21:57, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
      • That is stated in the article and cited to a reliable source, [1]. The source also says that the entire quadriga was removed; the problem isn't that I don't believe the original hook, just that the fact isn't stated in the nominated article (editing the article slightly could fix that). I'll review the rest of the nomination in a moment. —Kusma (talk) 22:04, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
      • Rest of review follows. Promoted to GA status within a week before nomination. Massively long and within policy. Image is relevant and freely licensed. QPQ not needed. Hook is acceptable and fact cited inline in the article to a RS. for ALT1; ALT0 would need a mention or clarification in the article. —Kusma (talk) 22:16, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
  • I put together the original article if it is okay and there is interest, I can work it clarify and add more information. One thing that was not mentioned is the entire statuary was removed and reguilded and then reinstalled in 2016. By the way I did notice that the photo used is not on the Wikipedia page it is sending folks to. If that is the case there are many other photos that may be even be better to use. Myotus (talk) 14:53, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
    • For additional consideration Myotus / Kusma (this was my first-choice image to begin with and then I realized it wasn't in the main article...it's the most dramatic...perhaps a quick fix to this dilemma is to place this image temporarily on both pages until after the DYK runs? then you could remove one or the other to avoid duplication, if that's a concern)

  • To comply with the rules of our bureaucracy, we need the image to be used for the Did You Know section to be one that is used in the article that is a boldface link in the hook, so in Minnesota State Capitol artwork. I agree that the charioteer travelling through the air while holding the horn of plenty is way cooler than the other image, it may have a better shot at getting on the Main Page. (Only one out of eight slots in Did You Know? comes with an image). It does not matter whether the image is in the non-boldface linked articles. —Kusma (talk) 16:39, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
    • I just added the photo to the section. I also added more information on the restoration/gilding of the Quadriga. Myotus (talk) 15:16, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
      • Great, then the second photo is also acceptable to go on the Main Page. ALT1 and ALT2 are both fine with either image. —Kusma (talk) 15:40, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
