Template:Video game titles/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Video game titles. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template is used in conjunction with a sub-template (Template:Video game titles/item) to create a table to display information for a single video game or related title in a stand-alone list of video game titles. Not all parameters will be used. Different combinations of parameters are used to display different table formats.

This template creates a simple table frame to be filled with rows created by the sub-template {{Video game titles/item}}
. Multiple rows are created by stacking item templates inside the main template. The two templates must be used together to properly generate the table. The main template does not have any special parameters other than accepting instances of {{Video game titles/item}}
. The item sub-template has multiple parameters to display the video game title's information as well as alter the format of the table rows.
To be readable on mobile, the table is styled differently on narrow screens – try resizing your window to see it in action.
- Warning
If any of parameter strings (article, title, etc.) contains substring "!!
" (without quotes) it will be interpreted as a cell separator and therefore it will break the table layout. To avoid so, "!!
" must be replaced by "!!
".
- Required parameters for basic usage
title:
The game title. Do not wikilink all or a portion; another parameter described below is used to create the link.date:
The game's release dates. Use{{Vgrelease}}
.refs:
Used to provide references for release dates. Will list the [#] next to "Original release dates:", "Cancellation date", or the "platform".release:
Listing of systems the game has been released on by year. Content should be formatted as "YEAR – SYSTEM", with a space, en-dash, and space between the text.notes:

- Optional parameters that augment the format

Used to link the game title to the article's page name; produces a piped wikilink. Should be used even if the game's title and article title are the same.series:

" to display "date" or "yes
" to display "dates".canceled:
Used in place of "date" if the game was canceled. Changes "Original release date(s)" to "Cancellation date" and "Release years by system" to "Proposed system release".platform:
Used in place of "release" if the title is not a video game, but a spin-off title. For example, anime or manga series, radio drama, expansion, etc.caption:
Used to add a table caption for accessibility. If the caption would duplicate a section header, limit it to screen readers using the {{sronly}} template, e.g. {{sronly|List of games}}
