Vermont State Seal

Since Sanders is a federal, not state officeholder, using the state seal is neither representative of his office or jurisdiction. Excepting Henry Clay, series boxes are best with the most recent/highest office seal, thus State Dept. for Hillary, President for the Presidents (because Clay was both a Speaker, powerful Senator, and Secretary of State his exception is rational). Head Box Color

@Tktru: Sanders is a registered Independent, although running as a Democrat. I would pose that for the right box (with text + name) we use a neutral gray color, such as #929292 and keep the Democrat blue outline around the portrait, as emphasis.   Spartan7W §   21:55, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi guys,

If you want to change the portrait photo in the heading, please ensure you use a professionally taken portraiy photo, where possible. At some point a user inserted a random photo taken of Sanders at a rally during the middle of a sentence, featuring a very odd pained/surprised expression on his face. This is not at all appropriate for a portrait.

@InternetMeme: Pictures used in the 2016 general election article should not be used in sidebars, see other candidates for example. Also, the picture used was taken by Gage Skidmore, a professional photographer whose photos were also used in the Hillary Clinton and Gary Johnson sidebars. That picture is also very recent and has a head-to-shoulder ratio similar to other sidebar photos. While that photo may not be perfect, it is definitely acceptable since it has been used since May 30 without any problems (until today). --Proud User (talk) 13:12, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

If that were a relevant criterion for acceptability, then it's worth noting that the original photo has been used for much longer without any problems.

The photo you've switched it meets very few of the requirements for portraits. The original photo meets all of them.

@InternetMeme: Please consider my all of my points rather than picking the ones that you can best argue with. Before reverting my edit agian, please consider my other points and form a consensus. (I.e., form a consensus as opposed to reverting). "[L]ooks better against its blue background" is only one of the reasons that photo is used instead. Okay, let's leave it as was originally until we reach consensus. The original photo was specifically taken as a portrait, whereas the image you've found is a photo taken while talking. When seeking a portrait photo, a portrait photo should be used when available. The new image you've found isn't a portrait photo: It's an action shot that's been cropped.

I wasn't picking and choosing any argument at all: I was stating one of the two reasons you gave for changing the photo in the first place: "Image looks better against its blue background and is more up to date". The first reason is completely spurious. The second reason is splitting hairs: The original portrait is from 2015, and Sanders hasn't changed visibly since then. The guideline about using recent photos is intended to avoid people using photos from 10 years ago, during which time the subject's look may have changed dramatically.

@Proud User: You agreed to leave the template as it was originally until we could reach consensus, and yet you've switched out the original picture again. Please stand by your word and leave it until we can reach some agreement.

I suggest we enlist the help of some people from a Wikiproject involving photography, and I'd be happy to accept whatever decision they make.

Okay, I've accepted that we should leave out the endorsements, and have edited the Hillary Clinton article to match. However, you need to get consensus before changing the picture. Your reason for changing it, as stated by your edit summary was "Image looks better against its blue background and is more up to date". These reasons do not outweigh the benefits of the original image.

Ahh, okay that was a misunderstanding: I thought you were doing that on purpose. My apologies. Okay, well I'm happy enough to leave your new image for now if you keep the endorsements. I'd like to get the opinion of some photography experts on which is the superior photo: I'd suggest that we enlist the help of some editors of the "Photography" article, or a related Wikiproject: What do you think?
