No URL?
[edit]Is there any particular reason why there is no URL parameter? Hack (talk) 07:54, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- I expect it is so that if the government web site changes its structure, then only this template needs to be changed to fix all of the links to it, assuming the new URLs will still contain the awardid. --Scott Davis Talk 04:38, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
New DPM&C website does show ID number on search
[edit]The Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet has recently launched a new website here for searching Australian Honours. However, the results no longer show an ID number/reference, making this template useless. I have today made contact with DPM&C to suggest that they show a search ID in url results so that links can be restored. Rangasyd (talk) 10:47, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
new sandbox version that abandons citation/core
[edit]The current live version of {{cite It's an Honour}}
uses {{citation/core}}
which is obsolete and no-longer maintained. The live version suffers another problem that is the url it uses is dead and does not redirect.
I have created a new version of the template in {{cite It's an Honour/sandbox}}
that uses Module:Template wrapper to feed parameters to feed parameters to Module:Citation/CS1 as if this template were {{cite web}}
. Doing this allows this template to support all of the parameters that {{cite web}}
supports and renders this template in a manner that is consistent with the rest of the cs1|2 family of templates.
These examples are taken from the template's documentation page:
{{Cite It's an Honour/sandbox |ausawardid=1140398 |recipient=Donaldson, Mark Gregor |date=2009-01-16 |award=Victoria Cross for Australia |postnominal=VC |citation=For most conspicuous acts of gallantry in action in a circumstance of great peril in Afghanistan, as part of the Special Operations Task Group during Operations SLIPPER, Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan. |postscript=. |accessdate=2012-01-29 }}
- "Victoria Cross for Australia (VC) entry for Donaldson, Mark Gregor". It's an Honour, Australian Honours Database. Canberra, Australia: Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. 2009-01-16. Retrieved 2012-01-29.

All of the above work except the second one. Here is a comparison between the live and sandbox templates:
- live –
- "Entry for Donaldson, Mark Gregor". Australian Honours Database. Canberra, Australia: Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. 2009-01-16.
- sandbox –
- "Entry for Donaldson, Mark Gregor". It's an Honour, Australian Honours Database. Canberra, Australia: Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. 2009-01-16.
You can see that the live template didn't work properly so, similarly, the sandbox doesn't work because it uses the same wikitext to provide a value for |title=
:
|title={{#if:{{{recipient|}}} | {{#if:{{{award|}}} | {{{award}}} {{#if:{{{postnominal|}}} | ({{{postnominal}}})}} entry for {{{recipient}}} }} | Entry for {{{recipient}}} }}
In this case, there is no |award=
so |title=
gets nothing. A possible solution to that is this:
|title={{#if:{{{recipient|}}} | {{#if:{{{award|}}} | {{{award}}} {{#if:{{{postnominal|}}} | ({{{postnominal}}})}} entry for {{{recipient}}}|Entry for {{{recipient}}}}}}}
Questions? Comments? If there are no objections, I shall update the live template with the sandbox and fix the title parameter code.

Proposed deletion of the article It's an Honour
[edit]I have proposed deleting the article It's an Honour as the information is out of date and the website is not called It's an Honour anymore. Why should this template be linking to a past website and a possibly soon to be obsolete Wikipedia article as well? Please update this template if you do not want this template causing broken links on many pages. Qwerty123 (they/them) (talk) 10:36, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Done. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:27, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
