Template-protected edit request on 8 January 2019[edit]

Remove:
flag alias-1993=Flag of the Czech Republic (WFB 2000).png
and
var1 = 1993
This flag are just based on the shades used in pictures of the CIA World Factbook and not are official or even real changes to the flag used by the Czech Republic, it should not be included and especially not linked to a specific year Havsjö (talk) 09:31, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: Havsjö, It's still in use. Please fix that first, then reactivate. Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Flag of the Czech Republic (WFB 2000).png Cabayi (talk) 08:10, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please add shortname alias = Czechia[edit]

Please add shortname alias = Czechia, per Czechia. Guarapiranga (talk) 23:00, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. S.A. Julio (talk) 00:08, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The edit request form doesn't say edit requests require consensus, S.A. Julio. In fact, it says the opposite:

If you have noticed an error or have a suggestion for a simple, non-controversial change, you can submit an edit request, by clicking the button below and following instructions.

I see it does say that on the information page you linked (i.e. not policy), so one of the two must be corrected.
I did check the talk page to see if had been discussed, and there was nothing about it here. Is it controversial? Not according to Wikipedia:

The Czech Republic, also known by its short-form name, Czechia, is a country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east, and Poland to the northeast.

Guarapiranga (talk) 00:24, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This will change the name to "Czechia" in some flag templates, which I have not seen consensus for. Given the article resides at Czech Republic, which is the most common name of the country, it seems best to discuss first. S.A. Julio (talk) 00:34, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What's to see, S.A. Julio? Consensus is absence of disagreement. The best we can see is absence of consensus, i.e. disagreement (except of course in those rare occasions disagreement is overcome, and consensus becomes apparent).
Regardless, editorial consensus doesn't decide what the shortname alias of the Czech Republic is, but what RSs say it is. Editorial consensus itself is not RS. So here are a couple:
Now, if you yourself disagree that this is what RS say it is, then you have to say it yourself, not defer to some elusive consensus. Guarapiranga (talk) 02:01, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But the article exists at Czech Republic currently, not Czechia, with a move request last year having failed. Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template#Changing the wikilink display text states the best results are obtained when the template name matches the article wikilink (as specified by the alias value). Template:Flagcountry, which uses the shortname alias when available, is used on over 32,000 articles. This clearly would need discussion before every instance of the template which uses Czech Republic is changed to Czechia. S.A. Julio (talk) 02:25, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I reopened the discussion at Talk:Czechia (where I do see it's matter of controversy, though it shouldn't be). Guarapiranga (talk) 02:32, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect is done, S.A._Julio; you can add the add the shortname now. Thanks. — 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚 (talk) 22:33, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've arrow Reverted per concerns raised at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) § Edit to Template:Country data Czech Republic broke links. Elli (talk | contribs) 09:25, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The solutiion forward to that is creating the article redirects for Czechia, Elli, not simply undoing Izno's edit. — 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚  10:11, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Guarapiranga It would be helpful if the requester made it so no one else needed to know about redirects. Please feel free to reactivate when someone has taken care of that. Izno (talk) 16:07, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't either, Izno; I just find it counterproductive simply paddling back in the face of difficulty, instead of forging ahead to fix them.
There's now considerable (even if not consensual) support for renaming the Czech Republic's main article to Czechia, let alone admitting it as shortname alias. When Prikryl raised this at the Village pump 3 months ago, he said the consensus is that the "Czechia" shall not be used on Wikipedia (yet), but that's not true. The controversy is whether to use Czechia as the main alias; there's little to no dispute whether it should be used as a shortname alias. — Guarapiranga  10:42, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 2 December 2019[edit]

Please add:

|redir2=CZ
|redir3=Czech
|redir4=Czechia
|redir5=Česká republika

Guarapiranga (talk) 02:34, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: I've added the Czechia alias, though not the others. Very few country data templates have the redirect alias listed for the two letter code, and almost none have the native name. It's better to recommend more common aliases than obscure/foreign language redirects that could possibly confuse editors. S.A. Julio (talk) 03:04, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove all those lines from "link alias-baseball" to "name alias-eurovision" (see Template:Country data Czech Republic/sandbox). They are unnecessary, because the shortname-alias line was removed last year. Moreover, the basketball line is wrong:
Code {{bku|18|Czech Republic}} creates a redlink  Czech Republic.
Code {{bku|18|Czech Republic/sandbox}} creates  Czech Republic.

The white-red flag without the triangle should be added as a 1990 alias as well (since it represented the Czech republic as a federated unit within the fifth Czechoslovak Republic) Glide08 (talk) 11:39, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Glide08: can clarity be provided? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 04:54, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
was the State flag of Czechia in 1990-92 (just like is Califronia's state flag, or is Bavaria's state flag), while was the Federal Flag of Czechoslovakia. It is that I want to be made as the 1990 alias. Glide08 (talk) 13:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
