Grand Duchy of Finland[edit]

The template should have a {{Flag|Finland|1809}} variant, that should produce something like {{flagicon|Russia}} [[Grand Duchy of Finland|Finland]]

as the red flag was used as Finlands flag briefly 1917-1918 before the adoption of the White-blue cross. And the first white-blue cross was brighter until it was changed shortly after in 1920. (and the crown removed on the coat of arms on the variant-flags such as state/military after it stopped being a Kingdom at this time as well, the shield of these 2 flags was also redesigned in 1978 to become the current design)

Grand Duchy[edit]

I'd like to request that Template:Country code Grand Duchy of Finland be created, so that linking to Grand Duchy of Finland can happen, instead of the current system ({{flag|Finland|grand duchy}}/{{flag|Finland|1809}}), which links to Finland and displays the Russian flag. Not done: it is unclear what changes you want to be made. Please clarify those changes, for example, did you mean you want to create Template:Country data Grand Duchy of Finland? and if so, exactly what you want that template to depict. Probably best to use a sandbox to depict the changes. Also, this will likely require a consensus for a new country data template to be created. P.I. @Paine Ellsworth: It's a glaringly obvious typo/Freudian slip. Let's not make such an ordeal out of it. My request was simple: make templates such as {{flag|Finland|grand duchy}} link to Grand Duchy of Finland rather than Finland. However, upon examining this again, one month later, with fresh eyes, I'm noticing that this type of desired functionality (i.e., linking to a historical entity when using the historical flag variant parameter) is absent from pretty much all other Country data templates. It can be worked around by using {{flagdeco|Country name}} [[Country name]], so I'm withdrawing this request. Rowing007 (talk) 19:42, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
