Relationship with other baseball team infoboxes[edit]

This template generally duplicates the efforts of Template:Minor league team, though it adds stylized uniforms. I think generally it should be used for international teams, or the two should be merged somehow. Major league baseball teams have their own infobox: Template:MLB infobox. Fallout of merge[edit]

As part of the merge with Template:Japanese baseball team, I commented out a few parameters, dealing with the latest season, namely:

  • Latest season (e.g., 2005-2006)
  • Record (e.g., 41-40)
  • Playoff finish (e.g., lost in quarterfinals)
  • Manager

What do we think of those?

One other thing: Are "Logo Design" and "Colors" necessary if we have the image of the log and the baseball uniform template? Rolando (talk) 13:30, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After going through the infoboxes, it does seem "logo design" is a bit unnecessary, since a picture is supposed to be there, but I think colors should stay since a lot of uniforms either don't use a color that's used in the logo or in merchandising, or features it in typography, which we don't replicate on the uniforms.

As for parameters that were left out, I think manager and record (probably for the most recent completed season) would be the best. Personally, I've found it hard to find managers for Japanese baseball teams, but that doesn't mean we can't put it in there for other teams. El Cid 05:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A few changes[edit]

  1. Added parameter: Mascot (optional)
  2. Added parameter: Division (optional)
  3. Added a default for LeagueChamps: None

A few more changes[edit]

Added information for the most recent complete season. These are all optional.

  1. Add parameter: Manager (current/most recent manager)
  2. Add parameter: Season (most recent season--ideally a wikilink to the season page for the league)
  3. Add parameter: Record (record in most recent complete season--no partial season records)
  4. Add parameter: Playoffs (playoff results, if any)

Thoughts about a few more parameters[edit]

Any thoughts on the following:

  • Ownership
  • Management (e.g., General Manager, President, etc.)
  • Sponsors

I ran into these when doing teams from the Korean Baseball Organization. I think it might look something like:

Owner {{{Owner}}}
Management {{{Management}}}
Sponsors {{{Sponsors}}}
Ownership George Steinbrenner
Management Brian Cashman (GM)

James K. Polk (President)

Sponsors Ovaltine

I was thinking about trying to use (or adapt?) this template as I expand the articles on the teams in this league. I've been reading up on it, and its all really quite interesting. Any suggestions? Dina 19:44, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you should be able to use it as is. I can't see why not. Give it a try in your user space and see how it goes! Good luck! Rolando 19:30, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't click on that link; it will redirect you. Well, anyway... it redirects to {{Infobox Sports team}}, which is a useful generic template for clubs/teams playing sports without their own infoboxes (or at least, that's how I think it works). But baseball does seem to have its own infobox. Ta-da! So why don't we change the "Baseball team" infobox to call this infobox, rather than simply redirecting? It's a little bit of work and would affect between 50-100 articles. What do people think of this? Note that there are parameters on {{Infobox Sports team}} that we may want to incorporate here (e.g. color1 and color2?). Rolando 12:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I impatiently changed {{Baseball team}} to use this template instead. Rolando 14:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Border[edit]

I think the infobox looks better without borders. Kc0616 16:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I felt like tinkering--I like it but I am fine with it either way. What do others think? Rolando 03:17, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the border. Rolando 14:05, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added color parameters[edit]

Added TextColor and BackColor parameters to allow editors to add a little bit of color at the top of the template. Rolando 23:55, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These parameters have disappeared. I looked at the San Jose Sharks and Golden State Warriors' infoboxes, and those sports allow for team colors in their infoboxes. It also appears about 170+ pages uses these parameters. I like the use of color and think it should be added back.Jjwyatt (talk) 09:03, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

International spelling[edit]

Could we please add a Colours parameter for clubs located outside the U.S.? —Wiki Wikardo 07:50, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Documentation problems[edit]

There were a lot of changes to the template made and reverted in 2022. Unfortunately, they weren't all reverted in the documentation. "Inaugural season" is one case; I'm sure there are others. If anyone had the time, please take a look. -- Pemilligan (talk) 04:20, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
