"Crime" -> "Charged with"
[edit]I've changed the label "Crime" to "Charged with". OK, ten most wanted is an extreme case, and there probably isn't much doubt in the law enforcement agencies' minds that they are guilty; but still, most fugitives will be untried, and therefore still possibly innocent; I think simply labelling them with 'Crime' implies too heavily that they had definitely committed those crimes. Per WP:BLP, this is something we have to be very careful with. TSP (talk) 12:46, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Infobox FBI Ten Most Wanted vs Infobox criminal
[edit]Would it be anvantagouos to modify Infobox FBI Ten Most Wanted to match Infobox criminal. A few of the feild name would need to be changes. However, if we could make these changes then when a crimial is added to the FBI Ten Most Wanted list we can directly subsitured Infobox FBI Ten Most Wanted for Infobox criminal. However, I just not sure if this will work since passed boxes would not work. Any idea?--ARTEST4ECHO talk 12:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Formatting issue
[edit]This template is generating lines of white space at the top of some articles in which it is included. After testing, it appears that if the "conviction_penalty" or "siblings" fields are left blank, one blank line is generated. If both are left blank, two blank lines are generated. I've examined the code but can't see any difference that would explain this anomaly. I did correct a typo ("Penality" for "Penalty") but that was a display issue, not a formatting one, and this issue was present before my edit. (The whitespace led me here seeking a solution which is why I found the typo.) Can somebody with more intimate knowledge of template code take a closer look? Thanks. - Dravecky (talk) 06:21, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- As I recall, there was not any of this whitespace before ARTEST4ECHOs numerous edits to the template. Although this whitespace is irritating, he improved template a little, but it could be even better. Karppinen (talk) 14:12, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Should be fixed now. 98.212.134.144 (talk) 12:38, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Status and suicide
[edit]Adam Christopher Mayes died today. While surrounded by cops, he committed suicide by shooting himself. How should I list his status? Captured doesn't seem right. Killed doesn't seem like the right thing either. Comment? D O N D E groovily Talk to me 03:08, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
For the status portion: Caught means he was captured alive by authorities Killed means he was killed by authority attempting to capture him Dead means he died of other causes Removed means he was removed from the list for other reasons If nothing else is listed, he will be noted as a current most wanted.
- So it seems Dead is the likely choice. tomasz. 10:58, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- Note that I myself added those explanations in an effort to clear up confusion on this. Hopefully I had the right idea. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 12:26, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
When I put in Dead, it says "deceased prior to capture" which isn't quite true - at least, not the whole story. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 12:31, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- Ah! Sorry, indeed i did not notice that you put those explanations in. i think "deceased prior to capture" is probably technically true, although i agree, it does elide more specific detail. As a boilerplate classification, it seems about the best you'll get, tho. tomasz. 18:07, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Status color coding
[edit]Imho the status color coding is a distraction in page design terms. Consider e.g. Eric Rudolph. The red underlayed "captured" bar sticks out like a sore thumb on the page. The design of infoboxes should blend in with the page, and the status information is just one more piece of info in the infobox. This template should not try to recreate the layout of some most wanted website. --85.197.12.42 (talk) 23:07, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with this assessment – the bright colors used in this bar look lurid and sensationalist, and they seem out of place with a NPOV encyclopedia. No one has disputed this point in two years, so I acted unilaterally and made the change now. SteveStrummer (talk) 00:42, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Status, again
[edit]I just had to return Ángel Maturino Reséndiz' status to "Surrendered" to stop his being shown as still on the list. He was convicted and executed! Both of those should be options. Infoboxes that only show how the manhunt ended are misleadingly out of date when the case has progressed. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:29, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
