Moving directions
[edit]I just moved the directions to the template page itself. --evrik (talk) 15:44, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Image size
[edit]I'm having trouble with the image size function, I can't get it to work. 400 px width is too large and is squeezing the articles. --evrik (talk) 15:44, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've made the default 300px.--Lord Kinbote 18:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Can you try 250? --evrik (talk) 15:45, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Finding a balance between an image size that is large enough to avoiding compressing the infobox text but small enough to keep from compressing the article text has been a challenge; 300px appears to strike that balance and seems to be fairly common for this type of infobox; I've looked at it using lesser values and they just don't work as well. This has been the established parameter for the last 7 months, I suggest that we leave well enough alone. Mdhennessey 21:07, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- 300 is too large. I think you should have fully discussed the change before implementing it. the larger image causes problems for text placement. --evrik (talk) 17:37, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I wasn't the one who set the parameter to begin with, and you were the one who implemented the change without prior discussion. I agree that the original 400px image size was too large, but as I stated above, 300px has been the setting for the last 7 months and strikes the best balance between "squeezing" the aritcle text vs. the infobox text. I've tried to work with you by looking at 200 and 250px but in the end feel that 300px works the best; it is also consistent with the sizing used in many similar-layout infoboxes on WP. Maybe you should try adjusting the settings on your monitor. Mdhennessey 19:17, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Move request
[edit]Way too broad name for an infobox and also bad capitalisation. There might be better names, please advise if you know one. Thanks, --The Evil IP address (talk) 12:15, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
NHL, NRHP, and CHL fields
[edit]I probably need to make these historic site fields more salient. People are adding {{infobox nrhp}} to these same articles, creating duplicate content. Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:15, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Even better: incorporate {{designation}} and/or {{designation list}}. Zzyzx11 (talk) 05:22, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe as a compromise for those who still want to keep {{infobox nrhp}}, we can also convert this to {{infobox}} to enable infobox embedding. And possibly get ideas from Template:Infobox religious building. However, {{infobox nrhp}} is somewhat limited since it cannot be used for missions that are solely California Historic Landmarks -- which is why designations should still be listed here in Infobox missions. Zzyzx11 (talk) 05:47, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
@Zzyzx11: are you interested in revisiting this now that Infobox religious building supports multiple designations, without setting the nrhp parameter? Mackensen (talk) 21:28, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
- Two months after I made those comments, I copied the code used on both {{infobox historic site}} and {{infobox religious building}}[1] to also make this template support multiple designations, so I'm not sure what else needs revisiting. The gist of the instructions on Template:Infobox Spanish missions in the Americas/doc#Designations is basically the same as Template:Infobox historic site/doc#Designations (although I'm not sure why these same instructions have not been added to Template:Infobox religious building/doc yet). - Sorry, I should have been more clear. I encountered a display bug while working on on Mission San Juan Capistrano and was surprised to discover that this template doesn't use {{Infobox}} as a base (specific issue is extra spacing in the caption). I was thinking this template should at least be converted to that standard, or perhaps use {{Infobox religious building}} as a wrapper (with a discussion about whether all the extra fields this template provides are necessary). Best, Mackensen (talk) 14:09, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not a big expert in converting infoboxes, so it will take awhile. As a temporary fix, I added the location map to the Mission San Juan Capistrano article,[2] which seems to clear up that spacing. If you are thinking about merging this template to {{Infobox religious building}}, I suggest that you make a post on WP:TFD (if there is consensus to merge, it really would be a waste of time for me to convert this to {{infobox}}). I know that there are more experts on infoboxes that frequent WP:TFD, plus I would not be surprised if some of them would also support such a merge. Zzyzx11 (talk) 16:34, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Conversion
[edit]@Zzyzx11 and Mackensen: I made a sandbox version of this infobox, that is based on {{infobox}}. I tried to optimize things and make it similar to other ones. You can see the result here (the example). You can test infobox in real articles in preview mode changing text Infobox Spanish missions in the Americas
to Infobox Spanish missions in the Americas/sandbox
. If everyone agrees (or nobody disagrees), then I plan to put sandbox version live in some days. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 23:56, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
