Is there a way to add custom fields to this? It would be nice to link out to entries in databases other than the ones listed here. Alternatively, can information be placed in the "other info" section? Where does that section come from? How does it get populated? Why does it still show up in the infobox even when nothing is underneath it? MM (talk) 23:41, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Remove genomic coordinates from Infobox?[edit]

It seems unnecessary to include chromosome/start/end coordinates in this infobox. The genomic coordinates frequently change for a given locus so are essentially useless on Wikipedia unless manually updated with every annotation/assembly update, and are available for the user by looking at the relevant NCBI entry, for example. I suggest removing these fields as I can't think of a good reason to keep them. Thoughts? Aretaon (talk) 14:16, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

|GenLoc_start= and |GenLoc_end= are linked to |EntrezChromosome= and the later supports version numbers which track assembly updates. I am not 100% sure about this, but even if there is a new assembly update, the link will be at worst out-of-date, but still produce a working link to the correct gene.
