Nature of rarity => Nature of notability

[edit]

Perhaps the datum "Nature of rarity" should be renamed to "Nature of notability" as stamps described by this infobox may not be rare at all, but are most certainly notable. Votes everyone? (I hesitate to change the datum title myself since the field name needs to be changed as well for consistency, and that would mean editing all pages using this template)  Zippanova 15:49, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Generally this infobox is intended for rare stamps. General articles of merely notable, or even common, stamps don't appear to be using it, though there may be exceptions. I don't see it being so widely used that the rarity use is becoming redundant and making a change necessary at this time. ww2censor (talk) 17:01, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a separate |notability= field'; there's no reason these couldn't be merged under the latter title. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:23, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What does "perforation" mean?

[edit]

I have no idea what is wanted for the "perforation" parameter. Looking at https://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2017/pb22468/html/info2_002.htm , I don't see "perforation" mentioned. Is there other wording that I should look for? Mksword (talk) 19:54, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mksword, if you look at Penny Red you will see that the edges of the stamp in the top image are smooth with no perforation. however, the subsequent image has a scalloped/perforated edge. this change happened around 1850, as is reflected in the infobox and in the text. other stamps, like the Penny Black, had no perforation. looking at https://store.usps.com/store/browse/productDetailSingleSku.jsp?productId=S_475304 I would say the edges look die cut. Frietjes (talk) 21:12, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I entered "Die cut" as the value of the "perforation" parameter. Mksword (talk) 00:32, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mksword, you may find Postage stamp separation useful. it states that most all self-adhesive stamps are "die cut". Frietjes (talk) 14:40, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"caption" parameter not properly mentioned

[edit]

The "caption" parameter should be listed in the "Blank" section and in the "Parameters" section. Mksword (talk) 21:12, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
