Template-protected edit request on 12 March 2022[edit]

Please sync this template with Template:User21/sandbox, which changes all occurences of {{SITENAME}} to Project. I'm not sure why this template uses {{SITENAME}}: and not just Wikipedia: in the first place, but I can only assume its because of potential crosswiki use. In that case Project: is better, because it is guaranteed to map to the well, Project namespace, while {{SITENAME}} doesn't have to. -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 10:32, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. This template has used the SITENAME magic word since it was created in 2008. That's a long-term consensus. Also, is there a guarantee that what you've said about "Project", that it will map to all other WM wikis, necessarily true? It's true enough here on enwiki that Project:Requests for comment is the same as Wikipedia:Requests for comment (using {{SITENAME}}), but is it always true on other wikis? And even if it is, it seems to be preferred that SITENAME be used instead. So what benefit is there exactly to change SITENAME: to Project:? @Paine Ellsworth Interestingly, the {{SITENAME}} syntax appears to break on mediawiki.org, where the MediaWiki namespace is selected instead of Project. I am pretty sure that the Project prefix should work universally, but since the template does not guarantee to be working on other wikis, I don't think it matters much. 1234qwer1234qwer4 08:43, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It should definitely be Project not {{SITENAME}}. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 22:27, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Paine Ellsworth: I assume you no longer have an objection? Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 05:18, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 17:38, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Project prefix should work universally. Since people frequently import templates from enwiki, I think it should be done, for correctness, and ease of exporting to other wikis. 0xDeadbeef 05:16, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To editors Asartea, 1234qwer1234qwer4, KevinL and 0xDEADBEEF:  done. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 17:38, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting[edit]

Currently, the template shows a sequence of two bullets · · for non-administrators where the <span class="sysop-show"> tag is applied. This can be fixed by wrapping it around the template parameter, as done at Template:User21/sandbox (diff). 1234qwer1234qwer4 08:41, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Done I'm assuming that this will still display properly for admins. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:41, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a cuwiki link[edit]

Per Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppet investigations/SPI/Clerks#cuwiki link on Template:Sockpuppet category? I'd like to merge in Special:Diff/1087091729/1102253325 which would add a cuwiki link for checkusers. I will plan to do this if nobody objects. I'm implementing this now. Thanks to @0xDeadbeef. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 22:21, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
