The Death Ray is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Daniel Clowes that first appeared in issue #23 of Clowes's comic book Eightball in 2004, and then as a standalone book in 2011.[1]

The story takes place in Chicago in the 1970s[1] and is about the skinny Andy who discovers that smoking gives him super strength. He arms himself with a ray gun and sets out to deal justice on those that had bullied him.[2] The superhero storyline was unusual for Clowes, known more for low-key stories about ordinary, if neurotic, personalites.[1]

In 2012, The Death Ray won a Harvey Award for Best Graphic Album of Previously Published Work.[3]
