The Empyrean is the tenth solo album by John Frusciante. The record is slated to be released on January 20, 2009. It will be the follow up to his ninth solo record Curtains. John has stated it isn't likely this album will have a following tour, as he wants to focus on his creativity instead of presenting his music to people.

History

The name of the album was known by at least two members of the public in early May, the webmaster of Invisible-Movement.net [1], and Armando Ruiz from San Diego. Sadly, Armando had leukemia, but was a big John fan, and managed to hear the album early, saying “John is singing like never before.” He spoke to John on the phone, where John told him the title. Armando informed the webmaster of it, but they didn't think they should post the title before checking with John, per his last wish. Unfortunately, Armando passed away before they could confirm. Josh Klinghoffer, John's friend and collaborator confirmed this.

When another fan spoke to John in September 2008, he said the album's title was The Empyrean. This clashes with what Armando had said, stating to the webmaster the title was "The Imperium". However, it seems this was a mistake on several people's behalf, and the name of the album is "The Empyrean". [1]. On 11th November 2008, Record Collection Music staff confirmed this to Invisible Movement [2] and, on the same day, John Frusciante launched a blog on his official website, intending to connect to fans and break the walls between himself and his supporters. He stated that he is not a fan of classic media channels and that this would be a way of communicating to people without the filter of magazines.[3]
