The Informers is an upcoming 2009 American ensemble film written by Bret Easton Ellis and Nicholas Jarecki and directed by Gregor Jordan. The film is based on Ellis' 1994 collection of short stories of the same name.

Filming took place in Los Angeles, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires. It was the last film for actor Brad Renfro before his death on January 15, 2008 at the age of 25.

Premise

An article published by Reuters described the story as "seven stories taking course during a week in the life of movie executives, rock stars, a vampire and other morally challenged characters", set in 1980s Los Angeles.[1] The supernatural content will not be included in the final film, however.[2]

Cast

Brandon Routh was originally cast as Jamie, but is absent from the finished movie after a decision to excise all the "vampire scenes" from the film adaptation.[2] Ashley Olsen was originally cast as Christie, but withdrew and was replaced by Heard.[citation needed]

Production

Filming began on October 12, 2007 in Los Angeles, and later moved to Uruguay and Buenos Aires before wrapping on December 6, 2007.[1]

Actor Jon Foster has announced that the supernatural elements of the short stories, including zombies and vampires, have been removed from the film adaptation.[2]

Release

The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2009.[3]
