2011–13: Formation

James McVey was managed by Joe O'Neill already in 2011 and wanted to form a band. McVey subsequently discovered Bradley Simpson via YouTube. Simpson later became lead singer and together McVey and Simpson wrote songs towards the later months of 2011. In 2012, Simpson and McVey met Tristan Evans through mutual friends. The trio then held auditions for a bassist, which eventually resulted in the recruitment of Connor Ball. In mid-2012 the band started uploading covers of other artists via their YouTube channel. In January 2013, it was confirmed that The Vamps would be supporting McFly on tour in April–May 2013. On 22 July 2013, the band uploaded their first original song, "Wildheart", onto their YouTube account. The video received over 46,000 views within the first two days.
