The Viral Fever (TVF) is an online digital entertainment channel started by TVF Media Labs in 2010.[1] According to the founder Arunabh Kumar, the idea behind it was to reach out to the younger generation who seldom watch television to either pass the time or for entertainment.[2]

The videos cover a range of topics on Indian politics, movies, lifestyle, and social concepts.[3] As of November 2017, TVF has three million subscribers on YouTube.[4] Apart from Youtube, the company has its own video streaming site TVF Play to host their videos. TVF conceptualized the idea of promoting movies through creation and distribution of original digital content. The Ishq Wala song series is one such venture.[5]

The first web series Permanent Roommates debuted in 2014.[6] It was the second most-viewed long-form web series in the world by June 2015.[7] A second original series titled TVF Pitchers was released in June 2015. It portrays engineers at different companies who quit their jobs to create a startup company.[8] Owing to its growing popularity, with both TVF Pitchers and Permanent Roommates being watched by millions around the globe, the company received a funding of $10 million from Tiger Global as was reported on 17 February 2016.[9]

Controversy

In March 2017, Arunabh Kumar found himself in the middle of a sexual harassment claim that was posted anonymously via Medium. TVF released a press release via Medium refuting the claims. several women have come out with similar stories of harassment.[19] An FIR has been filed against Kumar in this case.

On March 17 TVF issued a statement to clarify that they had found no records of any employee who fit the description of the anonymous blog post writer. They said they were investigating the remaining allegations. On March 29, a FIR was filed against TVF's CEO Arunabh Kumar at the MIDC police station in Andheri East.

A second FIR was then lodged against sexual harassment-accused CEO and founder of The Viral Fever Arunabh Kumar. Mumbai's Versova Police registered the FIR after another woman filed a complaint against Kumar over an incident she said took place in 2014.[20] On 16 June 2017 Arunabh Kumar, accused in multiple sexual harassment cases, stepped down as TVF CEO. Dhawal Gusain now leads the company.
