The World Standard, stylized as Wa–suta (わーすた), is a five-member Japanese idol group formed by Avex Trax in 2015. The group, which frequently uses cat-like wordplay and colorful costumes in their song lyrics and performances, has contributed songs to the anime series Idol Time PriPara and Kiratto Pri☆Chan.[1]
History
On 11 January 2015, iDOL Street held an audition for their fourth major idol group at Yoyogi Park Outer Field Stage.[2] On 29 March 2015, Wa–suta was formally announced at an iDOL Street Street-sei event.[3] The group's image is described as a digital age idol generation that works towards the world to spread "kawaii japan idol" culture using social media and "real idol" activities.[4] Their first performance was at "iDOL Street Carnival 2015 〜GOLDEN PARADE!!!!!〜" at NHK Hall.[5]
Since 2016, Wasuta has released two full albums, two mini-albums, and five singles. In Summer 2018, they collaborated with Adexe & Nau on a Japanese/Spanish remix of the single "Yo Quiero Vivir".[6][7]
The group has performed several times outside of Japan, including Japan Expo Paris 2017,[8] Japan Weekend Madrid 2018,[9][10] Japan Expo Thailand 2017, 2018, 2019,[11] Kizuna 2018 in Vietnam, Anime North 2019 in Canada,[12] and Japan Festival in Mongolia 2019.[13]
Wasuta released their first photobook “Wasuta – Wonderful Collection” in 2019.
A vlog featuring their activities, Wa→Tube (わ→Tube), can be found on iDOL Street's Official YouTube channel.
In 2019, Wasuta launched their own Youtube channel.
