Five ships in the United States Navy have been named USS Potomac, after the Potomac River between Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland.

  1. USS Potomac was a Raritan-class frigate. She was launched in 1822 and sold in 1877.
  2. USS Potomac was an old whaler, purchased 1 November 1861. She was a part of the "Stone Fleet", a group of ships used to block the entrances to Confederate harbors, and was sunk for this purpose 9 January 1862.
  3. USS Potomac (AT-50) was a tugboat purchased in 1898 for service in the Spanish American War. She was decommissioned, struck, and sold in 1922.
  4. USS Potomac (AG-25) is a converted Coast Guard cutter which served as Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s presidential yacht from 1936 to 1945. She is now preserved in Oakland, California.
  5. USS Potomac (AO-150) was a Maumee-class oiler, launched in 1956. She was damaged in an explosion in 1961; the reconstructed ship was renamed Shenandoah.
