The Disaster of Baima(Chinese: 白馬之禍) was an ancient Chinese political incident and massacre occurred in the year of 905. Baima, the main theatre of the incident, was a post office located in today's Chenguan township of Hua County, Henan province. [1] Zhu Wen, then a military strongman, executed a large number of courtiers and aristocrats of the Tang dynasty court in Baima in 905[2], causing a disastrous end of the privileges enjoyed by Chinese aristocrats for many centuries.[3]Some historians deem the Baima disaster as the culmination of the tension between aristocrats, whose power was waning, and rising scholar-gentries who acquired their social status by passing the imperial exam.[4][5]
