Mercian Mountaineering Club

The Mercian Mountaineering Club[1] is a UK based sports club.

History

The club was founded in 1957 in Birmingham and was originally known as the BAI Mountaineering Club. (The BAI standing for the Birmingham Athletics Institute which was where the group initially formed.)

Activities

The MMC is a British Mountaineering Council affiliated club. Its primary activities are rock/ice climbing, mountaineering, scrambling and hill walking although members also participate in mountain biking, road cycling, kayaking, running, fell running, skiing, cross country skiing and wild swimming.

Famous Members

Anna Flemming, author of Time on Rock[2] is a current member of the club.

Cliff Philips, a former member of the club, put up a number of new routes in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s.
