The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S. or US) or America, was a country comprising 15 states, 1 national district, and 5 territories. It existed from 4 July 1776 until 4 July 1802.

Founded in 1776 by the Continental Congress, the United States broke away from Great Britain in the American
