Eshwari Devi matam is a famous piligrimage centre located in Brahmamgarimatam which is a mandal in YSR district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is the place of Sree Veerabrahmendra Swami Sajeevasamdhi, and where Sree Eshwari Devi Jeeva samadhis are located.

Jaganmatha Eshwari Devi, the grand daughter of Potuluri Veeribrahmendra Swami, is the daughter of his First Son Govinda Swamy and the other siblings of Govinda Swamy are:

Right from her childhood, Eswari Devi was displaying her skills much beyond her age. She understood the essence of Ramayana, Bharata and Bhagavatas while studying in the elementary school itself.Praying at her grandfather’s Samadhi regularly, she grasped and mastered the essence of Bhakti and Jnaana. Once when her father Govindayya went into trans, a state of sleeping for three consecutive days, Eswari Devi closed the doors of the room and awakened him by burning Sambraani Dhoopa (burning of benzoine). Feeling extremely happy of her extraordinary faculty of this nature, he became her guru. (The spiritual philosopher). She learnt the Rajayoga Rahasyas (Rajayoga secrets) from her father. She became a shining scholar of Yoga Vidya at the age of hardly 16 itself.

As Eswari Devi is born with the blessings of her grandfather Veerabrahmendra Swamiji, Rangaraju is also born (1692) to his parents, the Kshatriyas – Jaggaraju and Jaggamma – residents of Nagarapadu of Rajampet Taluk by the blessings of Veerabramendra Swamiji. At one time, by reading the basic contents of the copper testament (Raagi Saasanam,) which was given to his father by Sri Veerabrahmendra Swamiji and understanding the truth and the nature behind every letter written therein, he intended to marry a girl belonging to Sri Veerabrahmendra Swamiji’s generation only and took the permission of his father accordingly. Taking the Saasanam along with him Rangaraju reached Kandimallayapalle. Having reached there, he heard a great deal about Eswari Devi, the daughter of Govindayya. He reached the house of Govindayya, explained about the purpose of his coming to his house and shown him the Saasanam that he brought along with him and requested him to give his daughter to him in marriage, as per the wishes, blessings and kind order of Veerabrahmendra Swamiji. However, the brothers of Govindayya did not agree to the inter-caste marriage. In spite of Rangaraju’s lengthy explanation that Sri Veerabrahmendra Swamiji was above all these small things like caste, creed and his commitment and preaching about the wellbeing of the entire mankind, they did not oblize him at all. At last, Rangaraju could manage to get one Tallapatra Grandham (writings on the polymers leaves) on his going to the Matam of Veerabrahmendra Swamiji, Banaganapalle on searching the Tallapatra Grandhas there, to find out some proof to the effect that in those Grandhas if any information about the marriage of Rangaraju with Eswari Devi is forecasted and is available at all. But then, everybody understood the Devarahasya (the divine secret message) available in those Grandhas, in their own and different way. Having been dejected, Rangaraju had returned to his native place and immolated himself on 21.2.1717, with the permission of his father (‘Vartha’ daily newspaper of Kadapa Edition, dated 13.12.1999 refers). The temples built in divine and fond memory of Rangaraju and Eswari Devi are places of worship and pilgrimage centers for many devotees now. Having come to know of the self-immolation and death of Rangaraju, Eswari Devi remained unmarried throughout her life and decided to continue her penance. In spite of her relatives, brothers and other well wisher’s resistance against her decision, she did not change her decision at all. After Govindayya’s attaining Samaadhi, continuing her penance, she preached about Atmavidya (knowledge about one’s own self) to her disciples and aspirants, after building a Mandir (temple) for her father there.

Due to her observing Brahmacharyam (celibacy) and due to her holy and continuous penance Eswari Devi looked very attractive and with a glowing face and personality. When her uncle (mother’s brother) attempted to rape her, she cursed him as a result, immediately he became a patient of TB, the deadly disease. On some other occasion thieves had stolen her belongings along with her Pattu Sarees. With her divine power she could see what actually happened and when she cursed the thieves, her belonging shared and kept in the houses of thieves, consumed to flames and burnt down. The burglars having understood the divine powers of Eswari Devi had returned the stolen property and kept them in the premises of the Matam, as they were afraid of facing her. As time passes, Eswari Devi earned name and fame as a Trikalagnani (one knowing about the entire universe). Traveling and touring throughout the country, she reached Peddagattu village in Podili Taluk. With a crooked view of testing her divine power and greatness (mahatmayam), some of the Vishwabrahmins there had installed a Digbandhana Yantram (a seat on which when one sits will remain attached and glued to that and cannot get up) to make her do pooja sitting on that. Grasping their bad intentions and ulterior motives, she questioned them, by lifting the peetam (seat or pedestal) with her left palm’s little finger which cannot be done by anybody in the universe, whether they used all their gimmicks to their fullest extent at all. Immediately thereupon, all these Brahmins had fallen on her feet requesting her to pardon them and started eulogizing her great divine powers. When for a Samaradhana (ceremonial feast) ghee did not readily reach from the neighbouring village, she asked one of the villagers gathered there to go to the Tank of the Village and on her behalf request Gangamma Thalli and bring water in the vessels. One villager has gone to the Tank as directed by her and brought Gangateertham. Surprising, the water turned out to be ghee and was served to everybody in their meals.After every one took their meals, the ghee from the neighbouring village arrived and Eswari Devi asked the villagers to go and immerse the ghee in the Tank of the village. Everybody eulogized and praised Eswari Devi profusely seeing this miracle. Eswari Devi had countless disciples. The most notable among them was Yogi Subbayya who served her sincerely, with total dedication and was looking after all activities of the Matam with absolute devotion. Another resident of Kandimallayapalle, a Vysya called Chatakonda Changayya had also gained her grace and was in her good books. Eswari Devi taught her disciples the secrets of Pranayaama, Gayatri Japam, Hamsatatvam, Saankhyataraka manaskamulu from the Rajayoga.

Eswari Devi lived for about hundred years and foretold about her going into Samaadhi before hand. Because of her forecasting, all her disciples and devo tees reached Kandimallyapalle two days before her attaining the Samaadhi. She taught them Kalagnanam (knowledge about the future). In the Eswari Devi Charitra (the history of Eswari Devi) written by Javangula Nagabhushana Dasu, along with her miracles, her Kalagnanam also finds place. Handing over the responsibilities of the Matam to her key disciple Subbayya she entered into her Samaadhi on Wednesday, the 7th December 1808 – the Rudhdirodgari Year, Margasira Bahula Navami day. Thereafter, her disciples and devotees closed the doors of the Samaadhi and performing poojas, gave Haarati to her. By then, her age was hundred years. That means she lived for hundred years (1703) That is to say that after Veerabrahmendra Swamiji attained the Samaadhi in 1693, she was born. Devotees believe that thereafter, as time passes, Veerabrahmendra Swami was born with the essence of Sri Mahavishnu and his wife Govindamma with the essence of Sri Mahalaxmi and later in the following generation, they are reborn as Rangaraju and Eswari Devi who remained unmarried lifelong and also that in future Rangaraju will be born as Veerbhoaga Vasantarayalu, Eswari Devi as his wife and that they would establish a Dharma rajyam (a noble and righteous governance) as mentioned in the Kalagnanam. Like Veerabrahmendra Swamiji, Eswari Devi also wrote several manifestations describing about Him and poetry on Him and also Kalagnanam (knowledge about the future) etc.

Jaganmatha Sri Eshwari Devi matadhipathi santhati[edit]

Firstly in Eswaridevi temples 3rd centurys mathdipatyam has been done by Sri Sri Rammayya Swamulavaru and after him his wife Sri Sri Kalamma garu and then the 4th century after mathdipatyam has been done by her son Sri Sri veera bramhaiyacharya swamula varu.After the sons of Sri veera bramhaiyacharya swamy has taken a decision to made there elderson as 5th centurys matadhi pathi named Sri Sri Sri Veera Bhadraswamula varu. After the death of Sri veera Bhadra swamula varu he given the matadhipatyam to his elder son as a usage and custum of the elder's son of previous mattadhipathi and the preasent matadhipathi called Sri Sri Sri veera sivakumara swamula varu. Now the temple is developing in very good manner under the matadhipatyam

How to reach Matam[edit]

By road[edit]

Kandimallayapalli is located 60 km from Kadapa. It is well connected by road. The preferable route is Kadapa-Mydukur-Kandimallayapalli. From Mydukur, the distance is 37 km. From Hyderabad the route is Hyderabad - Kurnool - Nandyal - Allagadda - Mydukur - B Matam. The distance from Mydukur to B.Matam is around 35 km. Direct buses are available from Badvel, Mydukur, Proddatur and Kadapa. Distance from Badvel to B.Matam is around 25 km. Guest houses are available at B.Matam.

Utsavams of Eshwari devi Matham[edit]

Every year, on Margashira bahula sapthami to Margashira bahula dwadashi, The kalashotsavam, and Eshwari mahadevi Utsavams will be celebrated in grandeaur.

Shree Eshwari Devi Deeksha - Devotees of Eshwarimahadevi, take eswarama deksha sadhana,by taking eshwaramma mala (A 40 Days devotional program where in the devotees will adhere to the strict religious life style by chanting eeshwari maha mantra), from the Guru.During, eshwaramma Aaradhanotsavam, The devotees, at the Matham premises, finishes their 40 days maladharana,and in the evening, Eshwaramma vari deeksha alankarana will be celebrated in grandeaur.

Brahmamgari Aradhanotsavam & Vijaya Dashami celebrations - During these two events, The mahapooja ceremony will be performed at Eshwaridevi matham. During BrahmamGari Aaradhanotsavam, The Utsava vigrahams of Govindamamba devi sametha, Sree veerabrahmendra swamy, will be first taken in to Eshwari devi matham. The eshwaramma vari utsava vigrahmams will be adored in grandeaur with beautiful flowers, and all the idols will be taken for the gramotsavam.
