A Fat letter is a letter used by some schools to help reduce obesity rates among students.
Use
[edit]Schools in at least 20 states send fat letters to parents[1] , including:
- East Penn School District
- Naples (FL) Middle School[2]
Errors
[edit]Occasionally letters are sent to students that are not obese, based on BMI testing.[2] This has drawn significant media attention, with the potential to cause body image problems and bullying.
